Your SMS result notification or a screenshot from a results-checking app tells you your score. It doesn’t give a school anything they can verify or file. The Original Result Slip carries your registration number, full score breakdown, passport photograph, and your selected institutions and courses — all generated directly from JAMB’s system, which is why it functions as an official record rather than a personal claim.
Where you’ll be asked for it
- Post-UTME screening — nearly every Nigerian university, polytechnic, and college of education requires it as part of screening, alongside your O’level results.
- Admission and clearance — used to confirm your UTME performance matches what’s on your admission letter.
- School registration — often requested again when you formally register as a student.
- Later academic or scholarship applications — some scholarship bodies and even postgraduate processes ask for it years after your UTME, since it doesn’t expire.
What happens if you show up without it
Most institutions will not proceed with screening or registration without it — this isn’t a formality they tend to waive.
